Welcome, latch key ladies. Remember when Stranger Things first came out and all the youngsters were suddenly obsessed with the 80s? Going out for groceries was enough to give any Gen X whiplash as they were flooded by memories of their youth triggered by some hipster kids in thrifted vintage windbreakers. Kids were sporting the very mom jeans you were forced to hide away at the start of the 2000s in favor of low-rise pants. 

While the sci-fi Netflix series certainly got a lot of things right about the 80s and finally gave representations to the sheer amount of brown (not neon!) decoration that absolutely dominated the the decade, the truth is, you really had to be there to truly understand how amazing it was. The kiddos watching The Breakfast Club, Indiana Jones, and Back to the Future for the first time are certainly in for a treat, but they will likely likely never watch Pump Up the Volume — which is a shame because they're totally missing Christian Slater's angsty performance as a dashing DJ.
